Microvariation in Verbal and Nominal Agreement: An Analysis of Two Lombard Alpine Dialects

Abstract In Bregagliotto and Mesolcinese, two Lombard Alpine dialects, feminine plural agreement/concord is marked by the formative - n , a reflex of third person verbal ending. Bregagliotto, triggers mesoclisis subject clitic in contexts inversion, whereas noun phrase behaves as second-position element marking concord. Mesolcinese exhibits gender agreement occurs on inflected verb whenever or object occurs; DPs, attached to any except definite article. I argue that system emerged when was reanalysed an adjunct pluraliser, has been turned into marker morphophonological concord/agreement.
